About …

  • Hi! I’m Sharleen, a parent, student, and Pilates practitioner. I make brave attempts at speaking Dutch, but am originally from New Zealand.

I was introduced to Pilates 8 years ago as a new mother who had never quite regained confidence in her own body, and have never looked back. I found increased strength in my body and recovered my flexibility and mobility that had held me back for a number of years. This reconnection acted as a catalyst for flipping the script to become the instructor!

I have recently completed a NASM Women’s Fitness Specialisation which enables me to offer up to date advise and programme for women’s through all stages of life - adolescent, pre & post natal and peri/menopause.

It has taken me 8 years to reach this point but I am proud to now offer my own private studio as a place for helping you to rediscover or embrace your physical fitness through movement using reformer and mat pilates and traditional fitness and strength training.

I am here ready to work with you through your next steps in progressing your health and fitness.

  • Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise that emphasizes core strength, flexibility, and body awareness, making it an excellent choice for people looking to improve their physical and mental well-being without the jarring impacts of so many sports and fitness regimes.

There are many reasons why people enjoy practicing Pilates, and some of these may include feeling taller, stronger, more aligned, and having less pain and more confidence.

One of the key benefits is improved posture. By strengthening the muscles that support the spine and improving overall body alignment, Pilates can help you stand taller, sit more comfortably, and move with greater ease. This can also help to reduce back and neck pain, which can be a common problem for many people.

Pilates also emphasizes core strength, which is essential for overall body stability and balance. By working the deep muscles of the abdomen, back, and pelvic floor, Pilates can help you develop a strong, stable core that supports your everyday movements and helps to prevent injuries.

  • Originally designed by Joseph Pilates, the creator of the Pilates method, a Pilates reformer is a specialized piece of exercise equipment designed to enhance your practice and provide an unparalleled workout. It consists of a rectangular frame with a sliding carriage that moves back and forth on tracks within the frame. The carriage is attached to a series of springs and straps that provide varying levels of resistance as you perform exercises.

The reformer also includes a foot bar, shoulder blocks, and a headrest, all of which can be adjusted to accommodate different body types and exercise positions.

The Pilates reformer is used to perform a wide range of exercises that challenge the body's core muscles, improve flexibility and balance, and promote overall strength and endurance in a workout that is suitable for people of all fitness levels and ages.

  • Over the years I have completed my training in traditional fitness with a specialisation in women’s health and fitness, and both Mat and Reformer Pilates and the Stability Chair.

I spend time reading and regularly undertake further training, ensuring I keep up to date with new techniques and gain experienced with alternative equipment.
